ONE DAY FOR OPPORTUNITY. ONE DAY FOR THE POOR. Friday October 17, 2014 is the Day of Opportunity. This is one day when businesses and their employees donate a portion of their earnings to Opportunity International Canada in support of the poor working their way out of poverty in the developing world. Launched in 2011, this initiative has already raised close to $200,000 for entrepreneurs and their families. Over 1000 entrepreneurs have benefited from this show of generosity and the idea is catching on! Wally Budgell, President of Robertson Bright Inc. (RBI) is pleased to announce that the leadership and staff of RBI have chosen to partner with the Day of Opportunity. Wally recently joined the Board of Directors at Opportunity International Canada. Understanding that in the developing world, millions of people have the skills and determination to start businesses; but that they simply lack the business-building capital to see their dreams through to fruition, Wally was inspired by the success stories of clients. “Reading and hearing about lives being transformed and the power of microfinance is what made joining their board an easy decision,” says Wally. If I can lend my time and energy to help others - help them, I’m in.” The RBI Charity Committee is pleased to announce that they have launched a 35 day campaign for their staff. For every dollar donated by an RBI employee between now and October 17, 2014 – RBI will provide a 2:1 match. That means every dollar donated becomes three. An anonymous donor in Canada has committed to matching that match. At the end of the day that means $1 donated becomes $6 immediately available for the work of Opportunity International. Launching and running a business is never easy, no matter what country you live in, but even more so in the developing world. Opportunity International entrepreneurs spur innovation and create important jobs. The Day of Opportunity helps to make that possible.
