One out of every two people on this planet struggles to feed and educate their children. When powered by opportunity, they have a chance to work their way out of poverty and transform their lives. For 40 years, Opportunity International has provided the savings, loans, training and insurance that all people need to create a better future for their families and their communities.
About this project
I know we have all been personally impacted by the work in Nicaragua. The graduation was truly amazing and such a blessingThis Christmas season, we are working together to make a huge impact on our community development programs in Nicaragua. With the recent completion of the yucca processing plant and the graduation of the Emprendedora Technical School students, there is incredible momentum underway! We are thrilled to announce a $150,000 match for this program, thanks to some of our most committed supporters. That means when you make a gift by year-end, your contribution will be matched dollar-for-dollar. Give today to leave an indelible mark on the Nicaraguan communities that are working hard to break the chains of poverty!
I have attached a wonderful personal endorsement from Paul Tshihamba, Missions Pastor Christ Presbyterian Church I wanted to share.
Over the past several years, Christ Presbyterian Church has had the privilege of investing hundreds of thousands of dollars into OI Nicaragua's Community Economic Development program. Among the many things that have made me excited to be an investor in Opportunity's vision of dignity are 2 which immediately come to mind: 1) OI's flagship Emprendedora High School, an entrepreneurial school which trains future leaders in the fields of agronomy and the hospitality industry. Last week that investment paid dividends as we were able to celebrate the very first graduating class as they received not only their diplomas, but their ticket to economic security and dignity. 2) the culmination of a long-awaited dream to create a clear pathway out of poverty for thousands of small holder farmers by creating access to markets previously out of reach. The state of the art yucca processing plant is literally enabling farmers to boost their productivity yields 10-fold.* These examples are only the tip of the iceberg of a much larger story of staggering returns on investments in hope and dignity for our sister communities in Nicaragua.
I have attached a few pictures from my travels last week for you to enjoy.
Thank you for being part of the Opportunity International family. I hope you will prayerfully consider joining us. Blessings Lori
Your support will help
Today, we are at an exciting juncture with all of the programs in Nicaragua and your partnership could significantly impact our success. The Entrepreneurship school will graduate its first class in 2016. More farmers are being served than ever. The program has already surpassed its 2015 goal to serve 800 farmers. More than 1,000 are receiving training, a loan or market access. We are now doing everything possible to ensure that harvest is successful in the face of insufficient rainfall.
Your timely support can help ensure the completion of classrooms and preparation for the first graduating class, and completion of the yucca processing plant before January harvest. You can help Nicaraguan families achieve many levels of transformation as they work their way out of poverty with dignity. With your partnership, we are empowering farmers to increase yields and income, students to build skills for the future, and communities to realize their own vision for sustainable livelihoods. On behalf of our clients, thank you!
