Caterpillar Inc., the Caterpillar Foundation and Opportunity International are working to increase opportunities for people working their way out of poverty in the developing world.
A recent pledge from Caterpillar Inc., through the Caterpillar Foundation, will enable 175,000 entrepreneurs in up to 33 countries to receive microloans to start or expand businesses. This investment will result in the creation of 77,140 new jobs and 250,000 new interest-bearing savings accounts. In all, nearly 500,000 individuals will directly benefit over five years.
Caterpillar’s investment and Opportunity International’s microfinance institutions help entrepreneurs through:
- Educational training to develop business skills and enhance personal growth
- Expansion loans that enable the scale-up of successful businesses
- Loans, savings and insurance products tailored to each region’s specific
- Scalable, sustainable and accessible banks in more countries
Increased access to financial services through the use of new technologies
Every dollar invested in Opportunity becomes $6 invested in microenterprises over the course of 5 years.
