Opportunity International Client Elsa Gabriel

Elsa Gabriel does her best to make a living for her husband and six children in Tarlac, Philippines. For many years, she has run her own retail store, providing her customers with various groceries and household goods. However, even with her husband’s income from working as a farmer, the couple struggled to afford all of their large family’s daily needs. Elsa feared that without the means or knowledge about how to expand her business, her family would not be able to improve their financial situation. When Elsa heard about the financial training and support she could receive from Opportunity International, she knew she had found the solution she had been looking for. Elsa used her loan to buy a wider selection of products, goods, and everything she needs to continue her day-to-day store operations. She is excited to see the growth of her business, and the more sustainable income it provides for her family. Her dream is to continue to expand her shop to save up money for her children’s school fees, and to bring her family out of poverty for good.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do entrepreneurs become Opportunity International loan clients?

Opportunity International conducts interviews with prospective clients to get a better understanding of their situation, so we can construct a loan that’s tailored to their needs and capabilities.

If I help fund a loan, should I expect to be paid back?

When you help to fund a loan, you are making a donation to Opportunity International. When those funds are repaid by the client, the funds remain in the country where the original client’s loan was disbursed, so that it can help fund more loans. Your initial gift continues to have an impact after the first loan is repaid.
