Imelda Nassazi does her best to make a living for her husband and seven children in the city of Mubende, Uganda. For many years she has run her own retail shop, providing her customers with various goods. However, Imelda struggled with a lack of capital and had difficulty affording the upkeep of her shop’s building. She feared that without the means or knowledge about how to expand her business, her small income would not be enough to afford to send all of her children to school. When Imelda heard on the radio about the financial training and loan that she could receive through Opportunity International, she knew she had found the solution she had been looking for. Imelda used part of her loan to pay for her children’s school fees, and to help pay for the foundation for a new home for her growing family. She also invested in purchasing additional merchandise, supplies, repairs, and everything she needs to continue her day-to-day business operations for her shop. Imelda was excited to see that expanding her inventory attracted new customers to her store and increased her sales. Her dream is to continue to expand her business and construct rental units on her property for additional income to ensure that all of her children are able to complete their educations.
