Opportunity International Client Amaury Flores

Amaury Flores has worked all his life as a baker, but it was only a few years ago that he was able to open his own bakery. Although his three sons are already independent and have children themselves, Amaury is happy to keep on working. He loves his craft and rightly counts himself among its best local practitioners and, above all, he wants his sons to learn his trade and to pass it on to his grandsons. One of his sons, a member of an Opportunity Trust Group, told Amaury about Opportunity. Amaury liked the scale of the Trust Group loans and quickly helped his loan officer to form a new group, adopting a leadership role from the onset (other members call him the soul of the group). Amaury has invested his loans to buy a showcase and cooking utensils, but mainly raw ingredients such as flour, butter, and yeast. The bakery is processing about three times as many ingredients as before, which produces a greater income, but also greater savings obtained from stocking ingredients in bulk at discount prices. Amaury wants to see his bakery become the best and biggest in the neighborhood and his sons continue his heritage.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do entrepreneurs become Opportunity International loan clients?

Opportunity International conducts interviews with prospective clients to get a better understanding of their situation, so we can construct a loan that’s tailored to their needs and capabilities.

If I help fund a loan, should I expect to be paid back?

When you help to fund a loan, you are making a donation to Opportunity International. When those funds are repaid by the client, the funds remain in the country where the original client’s loan was disbursed, so that it can help fund more loans. Your initial gift continues to have an impact after the first loan is repaid.
