Opportunity International Client Elena Gusilatar

Elena Gusilatar is a hardworking single mother who lives with her three children in Dipaculao, Philippines. She sells a variety of accessories and beauty products to earn a living, but she has struggled to make ends meet as the sole breadwinner for her family. Elena travels door-to-door to sell her products, but oftentimes, she does not earn enough to sustain both her business and her family. She feared that if her business did not improve, she would not be able to pay her children’s school fees, let alone put food on the table.

Elena began to regain hope for her family’s future when she became a client of Opportunity International. She joined a Trust Group where she received valuable financial training and she plans on using her loan to purchase stock in bulk for her business. Elena hopes that by expanding her selection and amount of merchandise, she will be able to meet more customers’ needs and increase her profits. She also hopes to travel more throughout her community so she can reach more customers and earn more income to help her children finish school.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do entrepreneurs become Opportunity International loan clients?

Opportunity International conducts interviews with prospective clients to get a better understanding of their situation, so we can construct a loan that’s tailored to their needs and capabilities.

If I help fund a loan, should I expect to be paid back?

When you help to fund a loan, you are making a donation to Opportunity International. When those funds are repaid by the client, the funds remain in the country where the original clients loan was dispursed, so that it can help fund more loans. Your inital gift continues to have an impact after the first loan is repaid.
