Gladis Rut is a hard-working mother living in Cartagena, Colombia. For years, Gladis has worked from home creating caps, clothes, and other various clothing items to sell in her community. Her small business profits were sufficient to pay for the costs of sending all four of her daughters to school, but now that all of her children are grown, Gladis is interested in pursuing her dream of owning her own dressmaking shop. However, Gladis has never had enough resources or capital to make that dream possible. She was excited to hear about the loan and valuable financial training she could receive from Opportunity International to help her grow her business. With her loan, Gladis was able to purchase fabrics, threads, and needles in bulk to help her make a wider variety of clothing so that she can meet the needs of more of her community. Gladis was grateful that this investment in her business greatly increased her sales. Now she has more clients than ever before, and customers are also recommending her products to other people as well. She looks forward to continuing to grow her business and saving up money to open up her dressmaking shop. Gladys would also like to be able to employ single mothers at her shop so that she can better support the women who are heads of their families.
