Opportunity International Client Genevive Nabasuuta

Genevive Nabasuuta is a hard-working mother living in Kisubi, Uganda, with her three children and her mother and father. She sells timber to make a living for her family, which she buys from other parts of the country and brings to her town. However, Genevive’s biggest challenge was that she faced a lot of competition in the timber market, and had very limited capital to be able to grow her business. She knew she needed some help to expand, but wasn’t sure where to turn. Everything changed when Genevive heard on the radio about the loan and financial training she could receive from Opportunity International to help her grow her business. With her loan, Genevive was able to purchase her inventory in bulk and employ five people to help her run the business. Genevive was excited to see how this investment greatly increased the amount of timber she could transfer and sell each week, and her business has stood out from her competition because of this expansion. Genevive looks forward to continuing to grow her business and opening up a second branch so that she can comfortably afford all of the needs of her children and her aging parents.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do entrepreneurs become Opportunity International loan clients?

Opportunity International conducts interviews with prospective clients to get a better understanding of their situation, so we can construct a loan that’s tailored to their needs and capabilities.

If I help fund a loan, should I expect to be paid back?

When you help to fund a loan, you are making a donation to Opportunity International. When those funds are repaid by the client, the funds remain in the country where the original client’s loan was disbursed, so that it can help fund more loans. Your initial gift continues to have an impact after the first loan is repaid.
