Candelaria Marcelino works hard to help her husband provide for their five children in Tanjay City, Philippines. For over 25 years, Candelaria has owned and operated a food stand where she sells local dishes and snacks to her community. She also works as a tailor, completing custom orders for her neighbors. However, even with both of her business incomes, Candelaria still struggled to support her large family comfortably. She knew she needed some help to grow her businesses, but wasn’t sure where to start. Candelaria found a solution to her dilemma when she heard about the loan and financial training she could receive from Opportunity International. With her loan, she invested in growing her food stand by purchasing her ingredients in bulk so that she could prepare more food to sell in a day. She also used some of her loan to increase the visibility of her tailoring business to attract more customers within her community. Both of these changes have greatly increased Candelaria’s weekly profits, and she is excited to see that both businesses are doing so well. She looks forward to using her next loan to opening up a tailoring shop, so that she can meet more of the needs of her customers.
