Bleidys Banquez lives with her husband and four children in the city of Cartagena, Colombia. Many years ago, Bleidys began making and selling soaps as a way to contribute to her family’s household income. She quickly discovered that she had a talent for business and wanted to find a way to open up her own retail shop. However, Bleidys lacked the financial means to be able to pursue her dream and wasn’t sure where to turn for guidance. Bleidys was excited to hear about the loan and valuable financial training she could receive from Opportunity International. When she received her first loan, she opened up a shop that sold her hand-made soaps as well as shampoos, hair treatments, and beauty products. This wider variety of inventory greatly increased Bleidys’s customer base and her daily sales. She is grateful that her shop has provided financial stability for her family, and she is hoping that she will continue to expand her shop to include an even larger selection of items. Bleidys dreams of saving the profits from her shop to one day purchase a house for her family.
