Opportunity International Client Grace Namayanja

Grace Namayanja lives with her five children in the city of Kitete, Uganda, where she owns and operates a retail shop selling various products and goods. Her most significant business challenge was paying rent and investing back in her shop to grow the business, on top of struggling to pay for all of her children's daily necessities and school fees. She worried that she would never become financially stable if she couldn't grow her business profits somehow. Grace found the solution to her troubles when she heard about the loan and valuable financial training she could receive from Opportunity International. She used her loan to purchase her inventory in bulk and expand her selection of items, which has attracted new customers to her shop and greatly increased her sales. With her increased income, Grace can not only pay her rent and children's school fees on time, but she has also hired an employee to help her with her day to day operations. Grace is glad that her retail shop allows her to give back to her community, and she dreams of expanding her business further so that she can become a wholesale provider someday.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do entrepreneurs become Opportunity International loan clients?

Opportunity International conducts interviews with prospective clients to get a better understanding of their situation, so we can construct a loan that’s tailored to their needs and capabilities.

If I help fund a loan, should I expect to be paid back?

When you help to fund a loan, you are making a donation to Opportunity International. When those funds are repaid by the client, the funds remain in the country where the original client’s loan was disbursed, so that it can help fund more loans. Your initial gift continues to have an impact after the first loan is repaid.
