Opportunity International Client Anna Aguto

Anna lives with her husband Ekadit John and their six children in Koloin, Uganda. She started a business cooking and selling food, which helps her partner with her husband in providing for their family. Anna’s earnings make it possible for her children to attend school. But when her business suffers, she can’t pay their school fees. At one point, Anna’s children had to stay home from school for financial reasons, even though they were performing at the top of their class. Anna decided she needed to grow her business so that she could keep her kids in school. From hearing about Opportunity International from a friend, Anna looked into joining the organization. After completing financial literacy training, Anna received her first loan, which she used to invest in her business. Because of Anna’s partnership with Opportunity, her business has stabilized, allowing her children to return to school. In the future, Anna wants to keep expanding her business and ensure that all of her children complete secondary school.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do entrepreneurs become Opportunity International loan clients?

Opportunity International conducts interviews with prospective clients to get a better understanding of their situation, so we can construct a loan that’s tailored to their needs and capabilities.

If I help fund a loan, should I expect to be paid back?

When you help to fund a loan, you are making a donation to Opportunity International. When those funds are repaid by the client, the funds remain in the country where the original client’s loan was disbursed, so that it can help fund more loans. Your initial gift continues to have an impact after the first loan is repaid.
