Agnes Nalongo Nantume is a single mother raising six children in Masaka, Uganda. In order to support her family, she purchases bananas from local farmers and sells them to the vendors in the city. But when the traders don’t come to town or the farmers charge higher prices, Agnes is stuck in the middle. Her business is difficult, but Agnes couldn’t give up because she wanted to create opportunities for her children. Then a friend told her about Opportunity International. Agnes decided to partner with Opportunity and received training and a small loan. She invested half of these resources in her business and half in her children’s education. Now, her business is expanding. With more cash on-hand, she is in a better position to purchase bananas in bulk and get a better rate. She dreams of growing her business even more and becoming a wholesale trader. Most of all, she hopes that she will continue to be able to pay her rent and her children’s school fees. She wants to feed her family and save for their future.
