Lolita Bañares lives in Quezon, Philippines, with her husband Fernandino and their three children. To provide for her family, Lolita started a small general goods store. But a few years ago, one of her children was hospitalized, and she couldn’t afford to both cover the medical bills and maintain her store. She tried borrowing money from relatives, but she still struggled financially. Everything began to change for Lolita when a friend encouraged her to join Opportunity International. After completing financial literacy training, Lolita received her first loan, which she invested in her business. The loan provided the small financial boost Lolita needed to improve her store, and her profits ensured that she could afford her child’s medications. Lolita says she is grateful for the positive impact Opportunity has had on her life. Lolita plans to expand her product selection and attract more customers to her shop.
