Opportunity International Client Flavia Namyalo

Flavia Namyalo is a hardworking single mother raising her six children in Nkoowe, Uganda. For several years, Flavia has sold vegetables, like tomatoes, to customers in her community. Each morning, she wakes up early to source produce from local farmers to sell that day. Despite her hard work, it hasn’t been easy for Flavia; in fact, there was a time she worried she wouldn’t be able to make ends meet to provide for the daily needs of her children. Everything began to change for Flavia when a friend encouraged her to join Opportunity International. After she joined, Flavia received financial training and a loan to invest in her business. Thanks to her training, Flavia identified that the biggest market opportunity is selling to other traders. With her loan, Flavia was able to purchase more tomatoes at a lower wholesale cost and sell to traders in and around her community. Down the road, Flavia plans on expanding her business even more and sending her children to college. Thanks to her loan, Flavia can continue to grow her passion for entrepreneurship while providing for the educational endeavors of her children.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do entrepreneurs become Opportunity International loan clients?

Opportunity International conducts interviews with prospective clients to get a better understanding of their situation, so we can construct a loan that’s tailored to their needs and capabilities.

If I help fund a loan, should I expect to be paid back?

When you help to fund a loan, you are making a donation to Opportunity International. When those funds are repaid by the client, the funds remain in the country where the original client’s loan was disbursed, so that it can help fund more loans. Your initial gift continues to have an impact after the first loan is repaid.
