Opportunity International Client Madalena Namale

Madalena Namale is a widow raising three children in Kiyoola, Ghana. When her husband died, Madalena started a business cooking and selling meals at the Kiyoola trading center to support her family. Madalena has struggled to maintain her business because she does not have adequate space to turn it into a full restaurant. Her kitchen is not separate from where the customers eat. Madalena found the solution to her business troubles when her friend told her about the loan and financial training she could receive from Opportunity International. After completing financial literacy training, Madalena received her first loan, which she invested in constructing a small restaurant. Since the expansion of her business, Madalena has attracted many new customers. She recently hired an employee to assist her in running the restaurant. Furthermore, the loan enabled Madalena, the only breadwinner in her home, to pay her children’s school fees, and ensure they are well-fed and well-clothed. Madalena’s dream is to expand her business and build rental units on the plot of land which her husband left to her.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do entrepreneurs become Opportunity International loan clients?

Opportunity International conducts interviews with prospective clients to get a better understanding of their situation, so we can construct a loan that’s tailored to their needs and capabilities.

If I help fund a loan, should I expect to be paid back?

When you help to fund a loan, you are making a donation to Opportunity International. When those funds are repaid by the client, the funds remain in the country where the original client’s loan was disbursed, so that it can help fund more loans. Your initial gift continues to have an impact after the first loan is repaid.
