Judy Villabriga lives in Natividad, Philippines, with her husband and their family where Judy operates a small grocery store. Her husband is employed as a driver, and the couple works hard to provide for their family’s needs and save for emergencies. However, recent increases in commodity prices have made it difficult for Judy to maintain her business. She feared she would lose her store, and she felt her sense of self-worth threatened. Everything began to change for Judy and her family when she decided to join Opportunity International. After completing financial literacy training, Judy received her first loan, which she used to replenish her inventory. With her shelves fully stocked, Judy was able to increase her sales and watch her business grow. Judy says that even more than the financial assistance, she is thankful to Opportunity for the hope that has been brought to women like her who are experiencing poverty. Judy is dreaming of and working toward a better life for both her family and her community.
